I recently made a speech on the attitude required to resolve any conflict. After my speech, one of my friends came to me asking to share the stories which I quoted during my speech. Here is one of the stories which bring out the attitude which is required for effective conflict resolution:

There was a father who left 17 camels as an asset for his three sons. When the father passed away, his sons opened up the will.

Will of the father stated that the eldest son should get half of 17 camels while the middle son should be given 1/3rd (one-third). The youngest son should be given 1/9th (one-ninth) of the 17 camels.

As it is not possible to divide 17 into half or 17 by 3 or 17 by 9, three sons started to fight with each other. How can they divide their father’s inheritance?

How can we distinguish big thinkers from small thinkers?

Quite simple.

By listening to their vocabulary and words they use.

Listen to people around you and concentrate on the words they are using.

Just try ‘listening to others’ for one day and will help us to understand that positive people use positive words.

Big thinkers are specialists in creating positive, forward-looking, optimistic pictures in their own minds and the mind of others.

Are successful people problem free? 

Let’s think about all the successful people whom we are aware of: Bill Gates, Tiger Woods, Steve Jobs, Warren Buffet or any other successful person around us –

Do we think they don’t have any ‘problem’?. Certainly, life is full of problems. The question is: what is the vocabulary of successful people when they use to define their problem.  

Let’s start from the vocabulary of successful people. Do they use the word ‘problem’ again and again during their conversation?

The way we think about our problems determines our attitude, or approach, as well. We can use three words to change our attitude and our approach to any difficulty we face.
