People don’t understand me – what should I do?

Posted on: April 25, 2010

What do you see in the picture above? A man’s face? What if I tell you its not a man’s face? Look again.

Here is one of the best bits of advice ever given about the fine art of human relationships. “If there is any one secret of success,” said Henry Ford, “it lies in the

ability to get the other person’s point of view and see things from that person’s angle as well as from your own.” Now look into the picture again. Can you see a man and a woman?

Andrew Carnegie a person who is one of the true stories of progress from rags to riches, learnt in his early life that if you want to influence any other person, you need to understand what the other person needs and talk accordingly. Even if you like an apple or an orange, you cannot use the same fruit to catch a fish. When you go to fishing, you need to use worms as a fish likes worms not apple or orange…… the same rule applies when you have to handle people.

Dale Carnegie says in his book: “How to win friends and influence people” that once he gave a course in Effective Speaking for the young college graduates who were entering the employ of the Carrier Corporation, the large air-conditioner manufacturer. One of the participants wanted to persuade the others to play basketball in their free time, and this is about what he said: “I want you to come out and play basketball. I like to play basketball, but the last few times I’ve been to the gymnasium there haven’t been enough people to get up a game. Two or three of us got to throwing the ball around the other night – and I got a black eye. I wish all of you would come down tomorrow night. I want to play basketball.”

Do you consider that they boy was successful in persuading people come to gymnasium? What was the better way of saying the above?

To repeat Professor Overstreet’s wise advice: First, arouse in the other person an eager want. He who can do this has the whole world with him. He who cannot walks a lonely way.

Here is another optical illusion: What do you see? an old man and an old woman or some thing else? Can we see the same thing but have different opinion?

Very deep thank you. I saw what granny and the old man and after a blink I picked up the guitarist and the lady towards his right standing at the door and on the left another chap sitting with his hands up as if holding something I am not sure what the white hair is.

Thanks Jackie for comments – white hairs show that the person is old!

good participation by everyone and thank you for giving shiny side of topic. on the old man’s face there is scenery of a couple and lady coming out of door and man is playing guitar for her and they seems to be in a large hall. and on the other hand on old woman’s face there is a man appreciating other man playing guitar for lady and that guy as well. and white hair of old women seems to be a curtains and white thing between old man and old women is light. and small thing appear on old woman besides the man on women is bottle of something like drink or like that.

“Not everything is as it seems”, just as “Not all that glitters is gold.”

Maik Sb.

Really Fantastic

Very interesting…Good work Malik!

Totally agree.
A very good approach to communicate with people and give them their breathing space. I have personally experimented this and have achieved great results.

Keep up the good work 🙂

I agree.

Stephen Covey, in his 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, says that, “Seek first to understand, then to be understood! Principle of mutual understanding.”

Have a great week.

I used these illusions a lot in my training programs. Excellent sharing Mirza Sahib, these illusions facilitate the thought process.
