Wisdom From Books

Is there any magical formula for success?

Posted on: January 28, 2010

“If some one tells you that a housewife create some skin and hair care products in her kitchen using fruits and vegetables and then turned her hobby into a billion-dollar business which became an international cosmetic brand, would you belive it? Yes, there is a woman who did that. She developed the right strategy, which included the right unique products. Her name is Anita Roddick who founded the multi-million dollar chain of Body Shops“. “I remember watching the comedy ‘Bruce Almighty’ starring Jim Carrey where God played by Morgan Freeman tells Bruce (someone who feels victimized by God and prays for help),

If you want to see a miracle in your life, then be that miracle.’”

“Neither books nor seminars can make us achieve our goals,

not unless WE make it work.

I believe that we get as much out of anything as we put into it”.

“Most people wait for something external to change them, but what they must realize is that they change themselves with what they learn”.
The above is from the book: Master your mind, design your destiny.
Is there any magical formula for success? Can we say that if a person does this or does that, he or she will be successful?
Adam Khoo believes that there are certain characteristics which are shared by all successful people.

What is the one common factor shared by Adam Khoo, Tiger Woods, Steven Spiel Berg and Bill Clinton?

Tiger Woods, a golfer, had Sixty-four worldwide wins; 56 PGA Tour victories; 14 major championships from 2000 to 2009. (www.tigerwoods.com)

Tiger Woods, at the age of 8, decides his goal: To become number one golfer in the world. At the age of 21, he did that. How? He was focussed on his goal.

Steven Spielberg, director of Jurassic Park, Jaws, E.T. and many other mega hit movies – from the age of 12 wanted to tell ‘stories’ to the world through movies. So he decided to make home videos. He started going to Universal Studios from the age of 18.

In the book: “Living History”, Hillary Clinton says about his husband, Bill Clinton that he used to tell people around him that one day, he (Bill Clinton) would be the President of the United States, when they both were studying at Yale University!

Adam Khoo started with setting a goal: To be the best student and to build a million dollar business by the age of 26. This was the first step: Goal setting.

Therefore, one of the common factor towards success, to begin with, is to have a goal.

Having a goal is the start – We may call it vision, we may call it looking into the future or we may name it otherwise, successful people have a goal to begin with.

Once a goal is set, a person makes his or her strategy to achieve those goals accordingly. A person who wish to earn USD 20,000/-  will have  a totally different strategy than the person who wish to earn USD 200,000/- a year.

For example, imagine yourself as the small business owner of a fruit shop that makes $10,000 in profits a month. Let’s say that you decided to set a goal of increasing profits to $15,000 a month. Would that be possible? Probably. You could work a lot harder, raise prices, increase trading hours, sell on-line or create a loyalty program.

What if you set a goal of making $3 million a month from your fruit business? Would it be achievable? Most people would
say, ‘Of course not, there is no way you can make that kind of money from a fruit business like that!’ True enough. Making $3
million a month from that fruit business is impossible, if the owner continues to use the same business strategy. Yet, if he were
to completely change the way he now does his small localized fruit business, would it be possible?

Happy reading.

Interesting.I will buy this book

I cant but agree!!

Goal setting is indeed the first thing to do.

Tony Robbins says, “Goals are dreams with deadlines”.

We cant achieve if we cant imagine ourselves having achieved it. And this little step turns to be the giant leap.
